Saturday March 21st we’re inviting you to our “Growing Community” Event.
Spring is almost here and it’s time to expand and prepare our local community garden for planting! We will have music, artist doing a mural and community members working to expand and prepare our garden plot! Fruit Tree Raffle! This event will be fun for the whole family and we encourage you to start saving your aluminum cans and glass bottles now, we use the cans and bottles to make our unique garden wall. Our community garden is made entirely of recycled materials and we hope it can become a viable place where community members can grow fresh fruits herbs and vegetables.
Last year partook in an event during the SUSD spring break where local Navajo artist and local school children painted over unseemly gang tagging and then collaborated to put up positive images and murals. The next project we organized was the creation of a small community garden made entirely out of all recycled materials.
This year we have combined those two initiatives into “Growing Community.” This is a three part event with the first event scheduled for Saturday March 21st where community members from the surrounding area will come together to work on expanding the garden wall, creating a garden committee and helping to expand the garden plot.
Simultaneously we have some young Navajo Artist coming out to put up a mural on a big work shed that sits adjacent to the garden location. These native artist will work on putting up a unique mural that will be visible for all to see. We will have a DJ playing music as well as a potluck lunch.
I am reaching out to you to invite you to take part in this event.
